Model Village Project
The Model Village Project is an Integral Development project jointly carried out by Lokenath Divine Life Mission, The Government of West Bengal and the Local Villagers. It will focus on five areas of development. These areas are as follows:
  • Infrastructure aid to Government Primary and High Schools.

  • Providing Education for All.

  • Providing Health for All.

    •
  • Fostering Economic Self-Reliance

  • Fostering Environmental Awareness.


    • Infrastructure Aid to Government Primary and High Schools
  • Provide Primary School Teachers.
  • Textbook banks to provide books for the poor pupils.
  • Students to perform school and community services to learn that they have a part to play in the development of their school and village.
  • Environment and Health Awareness Programs.
  • Non-religious Meditation and Yoga
  • Providing scholarships to Best Performing High School Graduates to pursue higher education.

    Providing Education for All.

    Lokenath Divine Life Mission will endeavor to provide Education for all villagers mainly catering to three groups, Pre-Primary aged children, School Drop-outs and Illiterate Female Adults, who would otherwise not have easy access to educational opportunities.

    Pre-Primary Schools

    Every Model village will have Pre-Primary Schools which offer

  • Secular Education and extra-curricular activities
  • Non-religious Meditation and Yoga
  • Environmental and Health Education
  • Cultural Heritage Education

    School Drop-Outs

    To cope with school drop-outs, the Mission will adopt the following methods to reintegrate drop-outs into mainstream education.

  • Educate Parents
  • Give support and guidance for reintegration
  • Monitor attendance and progress

  • Education for Female Adults


    • Literate members of the SHGs to teach the illiterate ones

    Providing Health for All

    Each Model Village will adopt Preventive and Curative methods to ensure that health needs of all villagers are attended to. Preventive -

    The Preventive measures will be as follows:

  • Conduct Health Awareness Programs and provide low cost sanitation, arsenic-free pure drinking water, deep tube wells, Srijal (water purifying units) at subsidized cost and smokeless ovens
  • Promote Maintenance of a clean environment
  • Provide Regular Health Checks
  • Provide Vaccination For Mother and Child
  • Offer Family Planning Programs

    Curative - The Curative measures to provide for those who are ill,

  • Emergency Care
  • Herbal Treatment by organizing programs to teach villagers how to identify and use herbal plants.
  • Homeopathy Blood donation camps
  • Blood Group Tests

    For Malnourished Children,

  • Nutritional programs

  • Contact with Government's ICDS project

    For Cataract patients,

  • Microsurgery

    Fostering Economic Self-Reliance: The Mission hopes to bring awareness to the villagers to be economically self-reliant through Self Help Groups and Farmers' Clubs.

    SHGs - For any work of development in the Model Village the Platform is the SHG or Self Help Group and we expect the women to lead this whole endeavor to bring about a sustainable development through Micro Lending and self reliance.

    Farmers' Clubs - The Model Village encourages environmentally friendly farming and so the Farmers' Clubs members are taught the following methods of farming: Pesticide -Free Farming Organic Farming Horticulture Laboratory to land workshops

    Fostering Environmental Awareness.

    Environmental Awareness in the Model Villages will be created through efforts to beautify the surrounding areas and emphasizing the importance of clean living. Some of the following have been carried out and some have been envisioned for the Model Villages
  • Development of Playgrounds and Children'sPark
  • Plantation of Trees
  • Curbing Sound Pollution
  • Cleaning of Ponds, Canals & drains
  • Cleaning of roads
  • Curbing illicit trading and consumption of liquor
  • Vastu for all homes
  • Solar Lighting for all homes
  • Miscellaneous
