Changing cropping pattern

The poor farmers of villages Halda, Kumirmari, Banstali under Sundarban delta are not practising seasonal migration in search of job because they have been succesful in switching over from monocropping to multiple cropping with the additional support of training, innovative agricultural practices, good skill and seeds provided jointly by the Mission and the Govt. bodies. This year more than 700 farmers provided with supply of seeds and by now around 500 bighas are covered for sunflower production. The practice of intercropping will ensure the farmers to harvest at least one crop in case of adversity.

LDLM as a resource organisation on Micro-Credit

(a) Apart from implementing Self Help Groups & Micro-Credit Project for women empowerment, LDLM also lends its technical expertise to concerned Self Help Promoting Institutes (SHPI) working in the field of Micro-Credit. The Mission’s Coordinators address regularly the training programmes on Micro-Credit organised by the Bankers, Workers’ Education Bodies, other Non-Governmental Organisations/Micro Finance Institutions.

(b) The Mission’s progress in formation of SHGs and subsequent follow up actions in the field of extension of Micro-Credit have been widely appreciated by Banks, SHPIs and Micro Finance Institutions. The Micro-Credit initiatives at Sandeshkhali Project received a fillip when officials of the Central Bank Officers’ Training College ( CBOTC ) paid a field visit on 12th December, 2003.
Some of the noteworthy observations of the groups visit were :

i) The groups were making all the group members literate;
ii) Taking of social service like mitigating village disputes, impovement of health & education of children, cleaning village roads, disposal of dead bodies through group mopde etc.;
iii) Maintaining of a disaster management fund
iv) Giving exposure to all the members of the group to carry on the bank’s work etc.

Project Micro Credit

LDLM believes that every human possesses the inherent dignity, infinite potential, and capacities of his/her soul which is insperable from its Divine Essence. Every aspect of the Lokenath Model of the Micro-Credit Self Help Group (SHG) is designed to foster the discovery and expression of that divine dignity, potential, and capacity in those served by the SHG. This is achieved through their personal efforts to bring about greater happiness and well being in their own lives.
