How
would you recognize an authentic saint?Do they exist only in the books
we read, long after they've passed from this life?Do we hear about them
only after they have been publicly recognized for their good work? Or
are they quietly working among us?
Meet Swami Shuddhananda
Brahmachari (Baba), a living saint who tries to keep a low profile. The
eloquent "holy man" who was trained as an economist, tells us there is
a saint in every one of us, waiting to be recognized and manifested. To
realize that every human being is potentially divine and to manifest that
potential is the purpose of human birth.
We ask Baba, "How does it feel to be a saint?"
Baba replied with simple humility, " A saint
never feels he or she is a saint. A saint feels only intense love for
the whole of creation. He feels the joy of being a divine instrument,
of bringing the Message of God, which is Love for all humanity and for
all life. He feels for the poor, the underprivileged, the undernourished.
He feels even more for all who are ignorant of their innate divinity,
for those who do not know the process which we realize divinity in offering
of our individuality at the altar of Universal Consciousness."
If somebody calls you a saint, how do you react?
I tell him or her that I am only the child of the Divine Mother, of Mother
Earth, of Mother Nature. It is for you to see the saint, not me. I see
myself only as a blessed child of God. I live from moment to moment, serving
God and fulfilling the Divine mission on earth. I celebrate all life and
bring that celebration to all whom I meet along the path of my life pilgrimage.
I am grateful to you for offering me the opportunity to serve you, who
are the divine-made-manifest in a name and form.
If there is a
saint in everyone, why is the world so miserable?
At times you carry your glasses in your own hand and search for them.
When you find them in your own hand, you are reminded of your forgetfulness.
So also, humans are forgetful of the God-seed in their own being. They
keep seeking God outside. In the process, they get distracted. They get
lost in the quagmire of the material world’s distortions and contamination.
They bring misery to themselves and to the world. But the day will come
for everyone when the purpose of all the pain and agonies is realized.
All self-created shackles will be broken one day as you reach out for
true, transcendental freedom.
