The Role of Spirituality in A desperate World

Swami Shuddhananda Brahmachari of Calcutta returns to the Bay Area in July to start his North American Summer Visit to the homes and hearts of his master Mahayogi Lokenath Brahmachari’s devotees.

The Message which Baba Lokenath asked Shuddhananda to deliver worldwide is one which teaches the path of divine love and surrender by serving suffering humanity.

Today, this message can no longer be ignored. One needs only to look at the present condition of the world and try to make sense of the senseless: the atrocities committed in the name of religion in the former Yugoslavia, Egypt. India, Israel, and now the United States as recently as the Branch Davidian holocaust which took place in Waco, Texas. The suffering of the starving and homeless people of Somalia, the escalation of man’s violence against man and the environment continues and culminates daily in statistics that leave the living in a state of numbness.

How is one to cope with the madness of today’s world? How is one to understand it? What must one do to help one’s self, let alone others?

Shuddhananda will address the role of spirituality in a desperate world —desperation both inner and outer — during his July visit. There will be two English language lectures, one lecture in Hindi and English, and an evening of satsang and bhajans.

The lectures will specifically address the issue of the eternal truth, viewed from the distinct perspective of this excellent orator who inspires all those with whom he comes in contact.

Shuddhananda founded Lokenath Divine Life Mission in 1985 at Bageshwar, a holy center in the Almora district of the Himalayas. His work is focused on helping the poor wherever they are. In India, he directly oversees project upon project in the slums and villages. In the United states, he founded Lokenath Divine Life Fellowship as a sister organization to the Mission in India.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Lokenath Divine Life Fellowship is a nonprofit religious and charitable organization whose participants meet monthly to prepare sandwich lunches to those in need of a meal …. And there are may in need.
